No you don't. You can use your fingers, and it is actually better to learn to play that way. I started off learning with a pick, but later I started teaching myself to use all 5 fingers when picking. You can play faster and play more complicated music when you learn this.

To practice start picking the strings one by one with your fingers. Use your thumb to play the top E and G strings. Use the rest of your fingers for the other strings. Just keep doing this over and over again while playing chords. Eventually you will get really fast.

If you ask
Chet Atkins, Danny Gatton, Jimmie AND Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Lee Hooker, Clapton, Page, Townsend, and Keith Richards.....they'd say NO you dont need a pick.

Any many others who use one on some songs and don't on others.

u dont need one, but your fingertips can become sore after a while. it is also easier to pick the right strings with a pick's small tip. hope this helps!

of course not. Using a pick is jsut one method. You can also pick or strum the strings with your fingers.

need--nope...but it really depends on what style you play. if you're just learning, you may actually be best off learning to play without one before ever using one--that's what i do with people i give lessons to.
