when i turn it on it has that windows did not start successfully. a recent hardware or software change might have caused this also. when i do select something it takes me back to a black screen and start the message all over again help

Get your windows xp cd or recovery disc, insert it into your laptop while it is on, then restart it. Follow the instructions to reinstall your operating system

When you turn on your laptop, quickly hit either F5 or F8 and continue doing so until you get a black screen with white text. Use the arrow keys to select "Last Known Good Configuration" and hit enter. This should boots Windows to the last good configuration and your problem should be solved.
