"Operation Frühlingserwachen" (Awakening of Spring) The Sixth SS panzer Armee attempted to relieve Budapest which was surrounded by the Red Army. It was conducted from March 6 to 16, 1945. It failed because of spring mud, overall weakness of the German forces and the massive strength of the Soviet Army. The battle was notable because it ended with Hitler losing faith in the Waffen-SS.
