Some times people who protest too much are trying to distract from what they feel people will see inside of themselves.

Sadly, no. Male chauvinists are nearly always hetero, and as such they make the women swoon for them. It is absolutely amazing to see how some women just love to be around these types, they just love the abuse I guess. Apparently psychotic self-centeredness is mistaken for benign self confidence by a lot of women.
