I am applying to rent an apartment and I don't have the best credit and I have only lived with my parents. I am 24 years old with a steady job. Would I have problems renting?

Also I have corrected my credit a lot in the past couple of years from being $12,000+ in debt to only $3,000. Hope this explains a little more.

Your credit history is only checked to see if you have any judgments against you. This is an indication of whether you will abide by a contract.

The total monthly payments you have to make indicate whether you can afford to rent the property.

I tend to check their numbers to see if they can afford to rent, and drive by their present rental to see if it is a dump. If it is a dump, I've found tenants tend to bring it with them.

I personally don't think you have much to worry about, if you've paid your rent and debts on time.

Good Luck

You don't have a rental history so expect to pay a higher deposit but you shouldn't have much of a problem. I would try to rent from a person instead of a business. There is more wiggle room to be subjective. Just make sure you pay your rent on time or early for the first year and leave the apartment clean when you leave and then you should be able to rent anywhere.

It really boils down to the number of vacancies available where you will be applying. Most companies with with a large volum of empty units will rent just to anyone. I personally would not rent to anyone with bad credit. Sadly, bad credit if a huge red flag most landlords zoom in on. My recommendation...go to an appartment complex with large number of vacancies and put your application...Ask to speak to the manager and explain your situation.... Please stay away from high crime housing facilities at all cost.... Keep looking until you find the place you want...it will happen... Best of luck.
