I would say that there are many factors that determine how long a person will live. Although global warming has adverse affects on our earth we can not accurately predict the length of a person's life by looking at that piece of the puzzle alone.
There is always a possibility that your son misinterpreted what the teacher said. I know as a teacher I have often been mis-quoted by students who did not fully understand what I was saying.

Don't assume your son got it right -- find out what the teacher actually said first.
Kids garble much of what's said to them. It wouldn't be right to simply attack the teacher without knowing the facts.
IF the teacher made it sound like it was happening tomorrow, there's a lot of problems here, not least of which is the teacher doesn't understand global warming.
Of course, I'm assuming you reassured your son it wasn't happening soon, and needn't happen at all IF we act soon enough. I'd take that to be the most important thing.
But if the teacher is terrifying students with hyperbole and misinformation, then, yes, talk to the principal.
Keep in mind, the problem is that, not the teaching of science in school -- which is a good thing.

I think that at 13, your son has a right to know that death is a part of life and he should know that people become old or sick and their bodies give out.
While global warming may have the effect of shortening life, I don't know that its an immediate threat. It is, however, a very real problem and needs to be addressed.
Could it be possible that your son misunderstood his teacher and assumed that it was human life that was being shortened or was it plant life his teacher was talking about?
You may want to discuss this with his teacher and let him/her explain what was said in the class.
Then tell his teacher that death or life-shortening events are things that you wish to discuss with your son privately, and that he was pretty taken aback with comments made in class.

The teacher did not lie to your son. It is the truth; global warming is shortening their live spans as well as their childrens. She probably did not teach it the way your son has educated you on this subject. I think you should contact the school and his teacher and find out more about her teaching styles and what you and your family can do to lessen "Global Warming". I for one am very pleased that our schools teach our children about all of the issues (or at least as many as possible) because I am sure most parents are not doing it. Children should be educated and allowed to make decisions as children that affect the rest of their lives and the lives of their own children.

Talk to your son to find out more about the whole lesson, and more about his fears and so on.
Global warming is an important topic and is on the news frequently.
Maybe your son only listened to part of the lesson, or maybe he is anxious in general about death and loss and saw this as a way of getting a converstion going with you on the topic.
Don't jump to conclusions about the lesson or the teacher, investigate by all means but also spend some time with your child talking over these things and giving reassurance.

Go for it - contact the school and with a bit of pressure the teacher could well be suspended or even dismissed from school and prohibited from teaching for the rest of his/ her life - that should make it better.
Kids (like teachers) are not always right or accurate in their reporting of previous conversations - tread lightly on your road to the truth

Yes I do think and so does your son obviously.
However I would have explained to him a little bit more to clarify some of his concerns.
Perhaps he didn't listen to the whole lesson or only understood one aspect of it.

Although it is important to know about global issues, make sure your son is getting the whole truth. If his teachers wont give all the information, be sure to fill him in.

I would speak to the Headmaster and make a complaint about her/him. Shouldnt be teaching kids if they dont understand how upsetting this can be for them, I say they are insensitive, and over dramatic!
