From a sociological perspective (the book Sex in America), the vast majority of the population marry people of their own race, religion, and socioeconomic status. Relationships where the partners are very different from each other generally do not lead to marriage.

Do you believe this is true? Do you know of any relationships where, for example, the woman has a PhD and the man is a fry cook?

Laura S, no need to get snippy. While I am very happy that your relationship has lasted so long, it is statistically out of the norm.

My husband and I are the opposite race and we've been together for 26 years. Plus, there are other things about us that are different.

Right here, I have a higher degree then my husband. We are from totally different worlds and we really don't have the same things in common outside of our family. We have been married going on 29 yrs in June. Have you not heard opposites attract or the saying "You complete me"?

I have a decent job and my loser husband can't keep a job, i think we are on the brink of divorce, so i say it won't work for very long
