I have good credit and my boyfriend's is poor. He had a BK almost 6 years ago. We want to get married but we're afraid it will ruin my credit. Does anyone know how marriage will affect us? We live in California.
Thanks!!!

We've been together 5 years and he's building his credit back up. He's not a financial loser either...

We've been together 5 years and he's building his credit back up. The BK was from mistakes he made in his early 20's and he's learned what not to do...

My credit was bad and my husband's was good, and when we got married, his credit did lower a little bit, because of me. But only by a few points. Also, mine raised because of him. And, we are now working at building both of our credit scores together. Bad credit doesn't have to be a deal breaker, if you are willing to work at getting it back to good.

It usually does effect your marriage but with the exceptions of major purchases (like a house) most of the time you can have them just run your credit. Just work together on slowly building up and repairing his credit. With your good credit it will be easier to bring it up. My now husband had a 380 credit score and I have a 789 credit score. We are fixing his and it is now up to a 498. Slowly but surely.

i do not think his past BK will affect you. Just be careful that he does not use your credit wrongly. I would keep all of my accounts separate you can be accountable for anything he does after you are married but not before.

It will negatively affect your credit. Regardless of which state you live in, credit reporting is nationwide. Plus if he has had a BK, he probably is not very responsible. Take it slow, do not get in a rush to get married

I do not think his credit will affect you. Before marriage anyway but after marriage this could change .You both may want to talk with an attorney.

Your credit is seperate. It only comes into play when you are buying something together. Then your credit supercedes his.

Don't buy anything with him or put your name on anything with him.
Go see a lawyer about drawing up papers that will exempt you from being responsible for what he does or did.
