So, my friend started out being bi-sexual this year, all was cool. Then....she started dating someone of the same sex, and has been going out for about 5-6 months now. But the problem she is having is that she doesn't know whether to still call herself bi-sexual, or whether to call herself a lesbian, now that she is dating someone of the same sex. Any help here?

Sexual identity isn't all about who you're dating at the time. She should still identify herself as bisexual if she still feels that she's attracted to both men and women. If she feels like she's exclusively attracted to women now, it's possible that her identifying as bi was just a safe way to transition into accepting her sexuality as a lesbian. It's fairly common for people who haven't fully explored their sexuality yet to first identify as hetero, then bi, then finally settle on gay once they've become comfortable with it. If that's the case with your friend, then she should start identifying as lesbian. But if she's still attracted to men, the fact that she's been in a long term relationship with a woman does not change the fact that she's still bi. Someone who was bi could theoretically have a relationship with a person of one sex forever, and still be bi even if they have remained in a same sex or opposite sex relationship.

That's totally up to her to decide. Do you need to label her?
If she's confused, she doesn't have to decide. I've been there. I hate labels. I date whoever I date, and I love regardless of what genitalia the person has. So I suppose I'm bi.
But I know I'm attracted to and enjoy the company of women... and enjoy having sex with women.
If I'm dating a man, am I straight?
Bi/gay/straight, to me, is defining what gender a person is predominantly attracted to. I'm attracted to both, so I could be called "bi". It sounds like your friend is in the same boat, though again, it's up to her to decide, if she needs to.

Bisexuals, like everyone else, are supposed to only date one sex at a time. The key to being bisexual is being *able* to date both sexes, not dating them at once. If she still finds guys hot and could have sex with them, then yea, she's bi.

If she still has attractions towards males, then she is still VERY bisexual. Just because she has one relationship with another girl doesnt make her a lesbian.
