im getting braces in april.
since i have an overbite, i have to remove two teeth. the dentist explained to me why and that it'll be much better. plus there won't be a gap, since she needs to take them out so my teeth can shift backward. <--really scared of taking them out..permanant teeth. what made me calm down a little was that one of the dentists had to take out 4 of her teeth, and it doesnt even look like she did. Also, they said that the braces would feel like a sore muscle for a while, but thats bascally it. should i be nervous???!! cuz i really am! about the whole taking out teeth thing, (which they said would be just fine) the braces part, even the molding part where i have to make a mold of my teeth. I'm just SO nervous!!!!!!

I can't believe how many people give you advice who have never had the same procedure. I did the exact same thing as you. I had a overbite and everything too. They're taking the teeth next to the canines right? It doesn't hurt because they give you painkillers. The only part that hurts just the slightest is when they inject your gums with numbing fluids. I've had all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out in addition to those and they were aLOT worse. I'm 15 and still have braces from 4 years ago. We didn't do the teeth pulling thing at first because my parents didn't think it was a good idea. It set me back about a year. It's a very good idea and don't be scared it really isn't anything to worry about. Listen to me and not those other idiots because i've done it.

Don't worry about the molding thing---my sister in law did it on one of my kids to show him how it worked. He thought it was cool.

Pulling the teeth can make your mouth sore---ask your dentist about using ice packs on your face on the way home from getting the teeth pulled.

About the braces: I only WISH I had done what you are doing right now.

I can't tell you not to be nervous but I can tell you from painful experience what happens if this isn't corrected---your teeth don't line up right. So some teeth hit each other harder/with more force. So getting a filling or a crown is tricky because your bite is never quite right.

This is more of a pain in the butt than you can imagine and creates many difficulties I won't go into.

I know you are nervous, but take it from me---it is a good thing in the long term. My parents couldn't afford to have this done for me---I wish they could have.

Tell your parents, dentist, everyone involved what you are nervous about and see what they can do to help you throught this.

Best wishes.

Don't be scared!!! My sisters both had to have teeth pulled for their braces. It was no big deal. And braces aren't bad at all. I kind of liked mine. The biggest problem I had was that if I used clear rubberbands, I couldn't drink a lot of grape juice or eat a lot of spaghetti sauce because it would make the rubberbands turn a gross color. But pain really wasn't a problem. If it ever really acted up, I just took a Tylenol and it went away. Don't be scared!

hey, nothing to worry about... my teeth were pretty bad, I had to have 1 pulled (they use numbing gel first, then do novicane so you barely feel the shot) and then I had a palate expander to widen my jaw. Braces for 3 years... and the only problems are that they ache a little after you get them on, and tightened but just take advil or tylenol... best wishes! your teeth will look so good once you're done!

I had braces for 3 years...and yeah, it hurts at first and when they tighten things down. But it's nothing to freak out about. Do you have pierced ears? It's sorta like that kind of pain...dull, but there. My mom was good about it, though. She bought me got a lot of milkshakes--LOL. It's natural to be nervous, but don't be afraid. It's fun to pick the colors out each time too :)

been there, done that........ i had ALL of my baby teeth pulled and i have had braces since 3rd grade (in 7th now)...... getting teeth pulled does hurt (i never had adult teeth pulled but some of my baby teeth still had all the roots on them.... that hurt.....) but its not unbearable..... and u'll probably go to sleep when u get them pulled...... and the braces dont hurt that much...... u just cant chew for awhile so u got to eat stuff like yogurt........ i have also had head gear (YUK!!), a palate expander, and a lingual bar..... not fun...... well good luck..... i survived so i'm sure u will too...... dont be nervous.... i had my first tooth pulled in 1st grade...... getting nervous just makes it worse.........

dont be nervous youll be fine, yeah the brace may hurt at first but then youll get used to it and it will be fine. i did have a brace once but it was a retainer and it didnt work so now i might have to have my jaw broken and then set so my jaw bites properly!! FYI i didnt mean to make u feel worse there. anyway i hope it all goes fine, i doubt it'll hurt and dont be nervous!!
