Only if they wroye something about you, using your real name.

You could not sue for them writing about a made up name that most people use in yahoo.

IE:

I could not sue anyone for writing anything about my jeeper_peeper321 name, no matter how bad it was.

because there is no such person as jeeper_peeper321.

You have to show harm done, no harm can come from comments made to or about a fake name.

People are so sue-happy!
Why don't you just tell him off instead?
Suing somebody is equal to pushing little kids on a playground, it's just not cool. There are so many other and better ways to handle things in life.
Besides, if something were to come along someday where it was an actual good reason to sue, the court will look at your history and possibly not grant it in your favor because you will have had a history of suing people.

Yeah.if you can find them .

What if they are in a foreign country? it would have to be a huge loss to your credibility and caused massive damage to you financially to be even worth pursuing.

Be aware that most lawyers outside of seppodom dont work on contingincies , they want to be paid often and up front to take your case.

As it is not a crime to slander someone then you would probably have to go to their country ( after you have paid huge sums to private investigators to track them down) and make your claim in their jurisdiction.

Then when you return to your home you will never get your money as you would have a immense problem trying to get your win enforced from seppoland

Forget it , unless your name is really Mango , you have been totally damaged by what ever comments were made and you have a substantial fighting fund, then let it be.

Yes, it is possible---though probably, not probable
There are heavy duty "If's" at work with a thing like this
If you can first prove harm to you on some level that is damaging to your person, property. or reputation ---
If you can locate a judicial system that will even hear
the charges that you are making--- If they decide to litigate
And, if this judicial system has authority within the statutes
of the internet domain !!!
Then there is the "burden of proof" thing--- and the thing of actually filing the appropriate papers to receive cooperation from Yahoo to "cough up the information" on this person as to who and where they are !! Then some authority in the individual's region of residence would have to search the person down in order to "serve" the appropriate papers --- be it an arrest warrant or the notice OF summons to appear (the notice that they ARE being sued)-------Then there is the thing of "who has the jurisdiction" over a matter like this and will the court procedings (if there are any) be where YOU are or where THEY are----all of this is extremely complicated stuff and each step along the way---somebody is going to be racking up financial charges as well !!!

All-in-all--it had better been something EXTREMELY damaging to you (and mentioning your "screen name" won't cut it) ----or almost ANY authority is going to laugh you out of their office !!!

I do not know exactly and legally how things work here on these bords but as long as some one did not give up your very personal informations or pictures and you are not in danger, I guess you should not worry too much about that! I do not know every little specific detail about what happenedd between you and the other person but just let it go if it is not too important

Written statements that negatively effect someone is called libel. As with slander( the spoken form), you would have to prove defamation and more importantly malice. Malice, expressed or implied, is the legal term describing the intent to harm and is one of the hardest legal positions to prove. It is conceivable however, to sue someone of libel that was against a pseudonym of yours......like many authors have.

Anyone can be sued anywhere. That is why you never use your name or another person's name. You can't be sued for saying that someone you know did something when you don't give your name and their name and there is no way to figure it out.

Go ahead and sue Barkley Hound. He doesn't exist.

How can they write about you?

They can write about your nick - but it probably wouldn't affect your purse, so not likely. How would anyone know it was you?

What would your damages be? On what grounds would you sue?

Next down the line: Yahoo! User Court

Yes, you could, but just know that the burden of proof will rest with you....and it'll be extremely hard to prove, if you can even find a lawyer to take the case.
