Part of growing up is learning that you don't have to prove things to other people.
Poetry is not weird. But to them it might be.
Let your poetry be your thing. and don't expect others to appreciate it or approve it. Otherwise you will alienate your friends.

Poetry is very personal. Be proud of it, but don't expect others to understand.

I write poetry myself. I understand your want to share it and have others appreciate it.

You are NOT weird, you are creative and show it through your poetry, you have a gift. You might think about submitting your poems to poetry.com or some other poetry web site, you could win some money or win a place in their latest book or you might turn the poem into a song or write a book of poems, the possibilities are there for you.. GOOD LUCK

Just say explain to them that it is a way of you expressing yourself... Tell them that you don't have to be odd to write poetry. If anything, they're the odd one for not apreciating other people...

Last year in english we had to do a poetry unit. I myself absoulutly hated doing poetry, but I am now a poetry fanatic. It's an awesome way to xpress who you are and what you can feel...

My friend amy, who wears baggy clothes, big chains, no make-up and is a tom-boy can write awesome poetry. It may be gory sounding, but it's a good way for her to get her anger out! I always thought it was a bit daggy for people to write poetry, but I myself like to do it now...

I may seemingly look like that happy little girl, wearing pink and 'smiling' a lot, but I can write some damn good 'emo' poetry...I've got one here...
A is for all by herself
L is for loneliness
O is for the only person who understands
N is for no-one ever seeing her pain
E is for emo-in-disguise

Yeah well anyway that's enough from me. Just explain to them why you write poetry and encourage them to have a go at writing a poem...Poetry doesn't mean that your gay...tell them that!

Call in Def Poetry Jam. I don't know what channel, but it's becoming all the rage.
There's so many open-mic nights, they're reall popular.
Hey, there's even a commercial in which a guy is doing open mic poetry, outdoors, and a car zooms by and says- three V dubble-you's for under $18 thousand!
Check it out!

I'd love to see some of your work. Show us all how you do? But do stay with it. It'll make you become a much better person, in the long run. Phooey, on what others think. I wanna see a Book of your work, someday!
