For the lyrics you need emotion. Think of a time you were happy/sad/angry... That's where all the meaningful song lyrics come from.

This is dependent on if you are a musician and your style of writing. For example, non-musician song writers have to rely on their ability to write rhyme or melody that they can hear in their head, then attempt to arrange without the creative input of experimenting with musical phrasing, such as verse/chorus separations, bridges and note/chord progressions. Whereby a musician songwriter can let the musical process drive the song and add lyrics as a secondary intention.

I would suggest investment in an electronic keyboard and to listen to and dissect songs to acquire their composition, musical instrument selections and parts, and the chord/note progressions that create the emotional movements within a piece.
