I just found out today at work that our computers tech has our computers bugged (for lack of better wording) and can see everything we look at on the net. Now, I'm not freaking out because I'm looking at anything bad, mostly travel sites, and people.com, things like that. What I want to know is when people say they can see everything, does that mean frame by frame, or just the sites you visit. Part of my job is internet based, so I'm really on the net all day, but I open a separate window to search on. So I guess my question is, can they see what I'm looking at, or just how long I'm on? I hope this makes sense.

It means if they have the software, they can not only see where you have been but also watch your desktop and every move you make on it! They can also record everything you do when they aint there! I have this ability on my lan! I can also control and install anything I want from my main PC including PC cams!
It aint as rare as you think prince! The company I work for uses it and can not only do this but control the actual machines in the factory! The software is free! Its called RealVNC.

An audit log will have been created showing a list of ALL the sites you have been on - and I mean all of them, all windows, all links, all email traffic, time spent on sites, even how much your work and personal time cost the company.
While the content can not be shown in real time that are ways to find out exactly what a person has been up to.

Many companies as well will use what we call a key logging service when all your key strokes again are saved in a audit log.

Typically what this means is that they run your Internet traffic through what is called a Proxy Server. This piece of software records which websites and which pages come into the business, and which computer is requesting them. This is typically done to keep employees from spending their days browsing MySpace/Ebay/etc. and not doing their work. I know of several companies that do this, and as the IT Manager at my office I have considered this myself when we appear to have similar problems. Companies that do this often also monitor/log email messages, and even IM traffic. If you are doing nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear.

Alot of companys use software that logs your data, most of them will log keystrokes and webpages visited, programs run etc. So they will be able to figure out any passwords for webpages u visit. Some software can allow the IT guy to physically connect to the computer and watch everything you are doing, although its rare they do this, if you are using your computer for things they dont like they may do that . . .

It depends what kind of program they use. They can see only the links you visited, or they can see everything that you typed during the day, they can definitely see for how long you're on, etc. It really depends. The best is to be careful what you're doing and what you're writing.

Generally, they can only see what sites you have visited, what search strings you have run and how long you are on each site. Along with various other things such as passwords, usernames and instant message conversations.
