As a mere male ! I should continue to take a bath if it relaxes you. Talk of infection when one considers basic female anatomy is silly . You are far less likely to get harmful bacteria in the vagina from a bath than from defecation!
Hope you get a sensible reply from an obstetrician or check out Google search (hazards of baths in late pregnancy) which has loads of information.
Hope all goes well and you have a lovely baby.

Who told you it's not safe? It's fine to take a bath at 40 weeks and even once you are in labour! Some women give birth in a bath!

When I went in the hospital after having contractions with my first, it took so long to move onto proper labour that they told me to go and have a relaxing bath.

Nothing wrong with having a bath.. Some people give birth in a pool that amounts to the same as a big bath after all!

There is absolutly no reason why you cannot take a bath, most maternity units use the bath as pain relief!
As long as the bath is not too hot it is fine to use at any time.

You can take a shower. But if you want to take a bath, make sure you don't use any bubble bath, or soap in general, or and bath salts. If you have lost your mucus plug and have started to dilated, the soaps and salts can cause you to get infected.

It is very safe unless you are told otherwise by your doctor. I've been dialated since 30 weeks and I still take baths. My doctor just tells me to have someone near by because my anti-contraction pills make me dizzy. I plan on using the jacuzzi in the birthing rooms during early labor to help relax me, and I'll be in full blown labor then.

Never heard of such thing to be honest.

My sister went into labour and went to the hospital at 7pm, then they told her to go home at 9pm, relax and have a nice bath!!!!

She went back into hospital 11pm that night and gave birth at 7am the next morning!

I think that it relaxes you more than anything else!
