The funniest story I heard Gene say about the tongue is... "The Doctor pulled me out by the wrong appendage".

Amazingly, it's his real, unaltered tongue.

Gene Simmons had a tongue transplant from a cow

Myth:
KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons, famous for wagging his considerable tongue as part of his onstage antics, had a cow’s tongue surgically attached to his own.

Fact:
Simmons’ tongue is abnormally long, and he has learned to use it in ways that draw abnormal attention to it. The fact is that '70s medical technology didn’t extend to successfully attaching animal parts to humans, and a cow’s tongue looks nothing like Simmons’ or any other human’s.

Gene claims that this is all a myth and that his tongue is really long, but most people believe that about as much as they believe Michael Jackson when he claims that he's never had plastic surgery. Nobody knows for sure, but since Gene says that it is, in fact, natural, then we automatically have to go with that. Hope this answers your question.

One of Simmons' trademarks is his long tongue that he often sticks out during concerts. Due to its unusual length, Simmons has long been the subject of an urban legend that he had a cow's tongue surgically grafted onto his. Simmons has denied this and simply says that he has a long tongue.

I always wondered about that. Maybe there is a third possibility - that he is wearing an artificial tongue cover to fool the audience. I await the combined wisdom of Yahoo to find out.

That thing should be sewn shut in his mouth if he can't keep it there by himself. What makes people think others want to see their tongues?
