Read "The Night Watch" by Sarah Waters. It is about the cleverest book I have ever read. The characters are very well developed and the plot is so well written.
The characters are all linked and all have secrets in their past, the book keeps going back to earlier and earlier stages of their lives. By starting at the end we already know what happens so the clever part is the author makes us want to know why it has happened and how the characters became who they are.
It's on 3 for 2 at Waterstones so you could get it and 2 more books other people recommend too!
Also I enjoyed "Made Of Steel" it's a Quick Read book about Doctor Who and the Cybermen. It's not great literature but is is a fun story and only costs £1.99 so I recommend this book too!
Whatever you choose enjoy what you read!

Sophie's World by Josteiun Gaarder

It a story about a teenage girl - Who starts getting these letters that start to form a mysterious kind of correspondance course on philosophy - Really interesting as a story - also you'll learn alot about philosophy - Cover all the major ideas and philosophers along side the story.

I think its originally swedish or something - its a #1 bestseller.

Great book

2 books that i found hilarious were catch 22 by Joseph heller and filth by irvine welsh ,the first one had tears rolling down my face and gets funnier the more you read it , the latter is more of a guys book and can be pretty vulgar but has some quality moments. Shantaram by gregory david roberts is a great read ,a little long but a great journey ,johnny depp bought the rites recently. I can also highly recommend any book by paulo cohelo (alchemist, 14 minutes) all he books are easy reads but carry deep spiritual messages ! i could go on but i would be here for hours ! one more i can highly recommend is the shankhill butchers by martin dillon ,it is a gruesome book that will chill you to the bone !!! i had to put it down a number of times ! it's about a ruthless gang of murders from the north of Ireland that carried out sick sectarian murders during the troubles , shocking but well worth a read !!!!! what ever you choose ,enjoy !!

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi on the Bhagavad-Gita It's purpose is to explain in theory and practice all that is needed to raise the consciousness of man to the highest possible level. This book describes the important problems of life and provides the answer to these problems. Good Luck! You'll love this book and it will always be a book that gives you more meaning as you get older.

Serious read = The Outsider by Richard Wright. Very deep, profound and full of insight.

For a great story with a sci-fi edge = Rendevous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke. First of a series of 4 books, a very wide ranging and well thought out story.

For great Gothic horror you can't beat anything by H. P. Lovecraft!! A poetical genius.

For easy reading thriller try anything by Clive Cussler.

Good luck and happy reading.
