I've owned 2 businesses, sold one. Would like to work in a good career with my management background. I almost sound too qualified with my resume and cover letter. Do I downplay? Suggestions please.

Downplay? Heck no! Check out the unemployment rate in your state :-) Show off those skills, knowledge and abilities you've acquired thus far. In your cover letter, tell them what you can bring to their table. Never ever downplay yourself - it's your time to show them what a shining star you are!

Never downplay your skills. Decide what type of job you want, or what industry you're interested in. Network with professional groups who might have contacts in your prospective field. Research what classes/certifications professionals have in your desired field and obtain them. Find an executive recruiter who specializes in placing candidates in your desired industry; many will help you design a resume and/or marketing campaign to sell yourself.

when a person go for a job interview,he or she might not get the job for two reasons
first,the person is not qualified,secondly,
the person is over qualified.
In your case you must come out clean and
tell the truth about your past and it might
help you and reward you for better position
But you must be prepared to explain yourself why you want to work for someone
after owning two businesses before
And you should have very good reason.
Good luck

No all your experience will be welcomed. Be prepared to be treated like a meat eating cat.

You will be a threat to management and your supervisors. You will know more and have the experience from two business to prove it.
