Spotting is VERY normal when you start the pill. In fact, when I started, my doctor pretty much told me it would happen (and it did.) You are kind of messing with your body, it's confused and not sure if you are pregnant or what. When I went off the pills I had similar issues too (and very irregular periods...my body was confused again.) I did get pregnant shortly after I went off the pill so don't stress that it will mess up your body too much.

Also, I found that I got REALLY grumpy when I started the pill. I was very irritable. My doctor told me to take a multivitamin, and that solved it all. I felt so bad, I didn't know why I was short-tempered. My breasts also hurt a lot so she told me to take extra Vitamin E and that also helped a lot. Good luck :)

It can take your body a few months to get used to the pill so you could have some light spotting while on it. Within a month or two that should go away and the benefits of the pill, besides not getting pregnant, should be noticeable. The things like lighter periods, shorter periods, less cramps, etc.

spotting can happen upon comencing the pill, and
it usually takes 7 days to be efective so if you plan on having sex make sure you are protected (withdrawal is not protection) use a condom. But honestly if you are not sure about these things talk to your doctor
