Just now my notebook, a Dell Inspiron 1300, won't start up Windows (XP, Home Edition) with a blue screen, saying the following:
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
........................", further it shows a technical info:
***STOP: 0x000000ED (0x83388618, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
On this screen, there are no option besides the on/off button, and after turning it off and back on, the computer will come back to this screen every time.
I've got some good computer "mileage", but this goes beyond my knowledge and scares me, what the heck happened??

Right:
Time for safe mode followed by system restore I think.
Here is what you have to do:

Restart your system
Keep tapping F8
A new boot up menu will appear
Select Start Windows in Safe Mode
Allow the system to boot up as normal
On the log in screen log in as the admin

When you log in you will be presented with a black screen, notice at this point all add ons and unneeded hardware has been deactivated.

A pop up will appear asking to run a diagnostic tool , select yes.

Now go to:

Start menu
All programs
Accessories
System tools
System restore

I would pick a date a good two days before you first encountered this error.

Follow the instructions to reset your pc back a few days.
When it reboots let it run as normal and hopefully the system will be repaired.

placed your residing house windows disk in and boot from the CD, you have have been given to pass into BIOS to alter your boot order. click deploy and after it plenty up each and all the information it gives you you the choice to repair the replica of residing house windows. that's what you pick to do, do no longer deploy yet another replica of residing house windows on a similar partition or you will run into problems later. The restore could restore any themes and permit you as nicely you computer up.
