This is SUCH an emotive issue for me at the moment ...
Because my studio is so small and rubbish, I decided to buy a loft bed with a desk area underneath ...
... with the consequence that I now have NO bedside table ...
So when I want to switch off the light or the alarm I need to scramble up and down the ladder ...
Big mistake ...
Soooo depressed
You're all so lucky!

Stack of books, old-fashioned alarm-clock, the bedside lamp I've had since I was 10, a hairdryer, a glass of milk, my mobile, some of my daughter's hair bobbles, and the table itself was my writing desk when I was a small child, and on it is my name, written by me when I was 5. Oh, and my mother's hairbrush. Mason Pearson, real horse-hair.

At the moment I have baby oil, massage oil, ashtray, joints and sweeets for the munchies. Oh, and my false teeth are lying next to his in the same glass along with his glass eye.
And on, edible underwear or bloomers as my sister in law says - a bottle of chocolate sauce - jar of viagra, KY Gell and a couple of toys to play with - my bedside table is my gateway to sublime heaven.
