A clydsdale is a great big powerful work horse. They're great for pulling real heavy loads or carrying a rider who has a two hundred pound suit of armor.
Here are some breeds for you to think over.
Quarter horse The traditional cowboy horse is very muscular. He's built close to the ground ( not tall like a thorobred ) making it much easier to get into and out of the saddle.
Thorobred The English race horse. Fast, tall, beautiful
The Arabian Smallish, pointed ears, arched neck. The arabian is number one for competetive trail riding. It has the best feet of all horses. Far fewer hiif problems.
Appaloosa Very colorful. Usually heavely spotted on the rump, but always spotted on the skin ( lips, eyes, under tail )
Palamino A color phase of the quarter horse. Deep golden color with a much lighter mane and tail or dappled grey with silver tail and mane.
Pinto Another color phase of the quarter horse. Large patches of color.
There are other breeds, but this will get you started.

I work at a guided trail ride facility. Here are a few of the names I have come across...
For mares...Foxy, Pebbles, Strawberry, Cheyenne, Misty, Hanna, Carolina, Pepper, Jody, Apache
For geldings...Commanche, Kaluha, Tequila, Playboy, Storm, Silver, Prince, Thunder, Indy (short for Indiana), Winston, Samson, Josey, Detour, Shorty, Junkyard, Pee Wee, Shadow.
Usually it's best to get to know the horse before choosing a name.

i personally don't like clysdales but i love Arabians. there arched necks thin noses and wonderful attitudes. a lot of people will tell you that they are very temperamental or skittish. that is true if not trained by a patient and loving trainer and owner. all the Arabians I've been around love people, love attention, love to be around other horses ( all though they all want to be the top horse, they don't like to be away from them even more.) . most cowboys don't like Arabs because they are so intelligent that if they where hurt or scared by someone or something they will remember it forever so that's why you need to try to make good positive memories with the horse through all it's life.
i hope this helps.

Why dont you try a rescue horse? Or a racehorse retirement facility. They need good homes and they would be a lot cheaper. Racehorses are also used to being handled so if you were using them for a project they would be fairly cooperative One of the bonuses is they come with names.

If you are planning to do driving or farm work a draft horse like a Clydesdale is nice-if you want to learn how to ride I would suggest a more lighter horse like a quarter horse or grade light horse mix.
