I've always got the impression that a bigger person would be more effective in a fight as they would possess more strength/power, but people are always telling me that it doesn't make a difference and being taller would make them more clumsy/vulnerable/slow moving.

What is your view on the issue ?

i think would think the more compact you are the better...less surface to hit...easier to dodge..but then again longer arms would be better

Obviously not.. I always thought I was a bit small.. 6ft 1.5 inch and 170 LBS... Havent lost a fight yet to date (last one was 2 weeks ago to some one younger and 240 lbs.. Oh sure I have a few hurting ribs.. but the other person was bleeding profusly and well is prob gonna need some magor dental work now)

I disagree with the tall bit.. taller has more reach and leverage Bigger doesnt mean badder.. hardly.. I never pick on anyone smaller if i can get out of it.. its always bigger... its knowledge skill and ability Size has little to do with it .. some of the real killers i've seen in life are under 5 ft 2 and about 120 lbs.. and I've seen em believe me we had a few in my Motorcycle club...

And I've been in a few knife fights.. and have the scars to prove it LOL Never underestimate the little guy I say.. they can often be the most dangerous

Best bet is dont get in fights? (I dont start em but i've finishe more than one of em.. and i'm an old f*uck.. I have no bis doing that anymore.. yet somehow.. Hmmm cant stop myself sometimes but only in defense.. and the scarey thing is I Like it...)

1- The only way to win a fight is not to get into one.

2- Big doesn't equate with slow or clumsy.

3- Different body types are suited for different fighting styles so body type by itself isn't the only determining factor. Stamina, flexibility, speed, strength, vision and aggression are some of the traits that determine the success in a physical confrontation. Fear or lack of it also plays a major role.

Not very important. All that really counts is technique and skill, and especially those martial arts that use a defensive approach could easily use a bigger attacker's height and weight against him, since its all about leverage, speed and skill. Look at martial arts like ju-jitsu and aikido, and you will see how smaller build competitors can easily disarm a much bigger assailant.

I've seen some smaller men move pretty darn quick and beat the living crap out of some big guys.
