First, if your throat is "closed", you really should see a Dr., to rule out strep, tonsilitis and or mono. All the home remedies in the world will not clear up a nasty infection, if you have one. I always use Chammoille or Green tea, with a little honey and or lemon for a sore throat, and continue with the Ibuprofen. But again, a "closed" throat, white patches on throat, tongue or roof of mouth, really red and raw and if you are running a fever, are all signs that you really really need to see the Dr..

1 tablespoon pure honey
4 cloves pressed fresh garlic
1/8 - 1/4 teaspoon of ground red (cayenne) pepper (grocery store spice section is fine)
Mix this together & use 1 tablespoon I do believe every hour. I have gotten this remedy from 2 sources now. The honey helps soothe the throat the garlic has an antibiotis to it and I have no idea what they cayenne pepper is for, but it works. I had to add a bit of lemon juice to it though because honey makes me gag, but it did help.

The lemon water sipping and saltwater gargles are excellent for soothing and cleansing the throat.
I am a big fan of the aromatic oils: Camphor, eucalyptus, myrrh, tea tree, etc. Fill a bowl (or your bathroom sink) with hot water and add a few drops of oil. Place your head over bowl and inhale, if you like it - but a towel over you and bowl. Massage oil onto your neck and throat. Mentholatum and Vicks (in a base of petroleum jelly) are easy to obtain and rubbing on your neck , throat and chest will help increase blood flow and healing. Rub any of these between index finger and thumb on outer hand and the aroma will "be handy" for inhaling while on the go.
And something interesting I found in "Healthy Healing" -- have never tried it: Stick tongue out as far as it will go. Hold for 30 seconds. Release and relax. Repeat 3 times to increase blood supply to the area.

Wild Oil of Oregano, Nature's Anti-biotic
I'm just getting over a throat infection I've been treating with it since early Wed morning. This stuff is amazing! It's anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-microbial - it treats all kinds of infections both internally and externally. Be sure to get a brand that is 75% or more carvacol. No side effects.
Dosage: I squeeze a dropper-full under the tongue, chase with a strong flavored juice ie grape. Be forewarned, it's nasty but it works. I've only been taking it 2 and 1/2 days and my throat infection is almost cleared and as it has anti-spasmodic properties I've rarely coughed since I started taking it.
Hope you feel better soon.

A sore throat is caused by an infection or yelling for tooo long. I'll assume its the infection. Soak garlic in water and sip the fluid without the garlic. It's a natural infection fighter.

Do this before bed time, but make sure you do not drink anything cold after that . IT WORKS WONDERS!

Reflexology, my husband does it and i always feel better the next day. Rub the top of the neck of your big toe. If it hurts a bit, your at the right spot, and the more you can indure the harder you should push. Rub in a circular motion with the tip of your thumb. You should rub it often and for at least 15 seconds each time. And on both feet. Hope that helps.

Throat Coat..it is an herbal tea, but you can also get it in liquid form. Try your local health food store. I do swear by this b/c I use it any time I get a soar throat. It usually clears up within a day or two. I also know that zinc is good as well.

honey is good for throats, have it in some hot chocolate so it's all nice and comforting. other than that there are nasty things like gargling with water & a drop of tea tree / eucalyptus oil or breathing the vapour of them but i'd go for a big pair of pjs a hotwater bottle and the honeyed hot chocolate.
hope you're feeling better soon xxx
