I have a 3 computer network, (1PC/ 2 laptops ) on a linksys router. Separately we can access the internet and run fine. The problem occurs when the 2nd computer tries to go online. Then we get "server cannot be found" Two of us use Firefox/Yahoo. One uses Firefox/Gmail. (if it makes any difference)
Do I need the Geeksquad? :/
My never ending thanks and 10 points to the person who can help! (my husband is having a meltdown over this!)

It's not clear if this is wireless or not.

I will say this much - the router can be set to give out addresses to each machine (DHCP). Each machine should be set to receive its address from a DHCP server. If they all have the same fixed IP address, it won't work. If this makes sense to you, you'll know what I'm talking about, otherwise you'll have to post additional info that you don't know.

Secondly, is it always the same machine that goes on first? I mean, if any one of the three goes online and a second goes on, and then it doesn't work, is that the scenario? Or is it always the same first machine?

All machines should be set to have the router as the gateway, and to get DNS from the router.

Finally, if one machine always runs a program that the firewall doesn't like, that could muck it up for the other machine.

But make sure you have dynamic (not the same static) IP addresses first, from the router DHCP server, and then make sure it's properly set as the gateway for all three.

Its sounds like time to get some MACs

They have apple stores where techs can help you fix your problem. Not some dude on the phone talking down to you.

Get some MACs

apple.com

once you go MAC you don't go back
