It is eighties in early nineties, don't know who is in it. it is set at a boarding school i think or maybe a regular one and it gets taken over by baddies so this group of boys who are students take on the baddies and save the day

It is definately Toy Soldiers starring Sean Astin & Wil Wheaton.
A group of terrorists take over a school for boys who are kicked out of regular schools because of behavioural problems.
Martika did a song called Toy Soldiers but even though it came out around the same time as the film, i'm not sure it is featured in the movie. (one of the school girls who sings in the background is a young Fergie from Black Eyed Peas)
You can get it on dvd now, bought my copy a few months ago, wicked film.

It was called Toy Soldiers, but i hardly think that eminem did the cover song as it was a late eighties early nineties film!!

I am not sure what film you are referring to, but I known a couple. one was done in 1991 called toy soldiers.
It stars Sean Astin, will wheaton, keith coogan.
The story line/plot is that a boarding school gets taken over by some bad guys, and it's up to the students to save the day.
Sean Astin and company try to protect their school from the evil, only to sadly lose one of their friends.
The other one was done in 1997 called Masterminds
It stars Patrick Stewart, Vincent Kartheiser, Brenda Fricker.
The storyline/plot is that Patrick Stewart tries to take over a posh private boarding school, and it's up to one person to save the day which is Vincent Kartheiser, who has a younger sister that this school, and he will stop at nothing to find out what the bad guys are up to and why?
