Has anyone been induced with pitocin, if so how long does it take to work, and how strong are the contractions compared if you didn't have the pitocin?

I will be induced because the baby is not growing because the placenta is failing. Pitocin is a synthetic hormone that causes labor to start.

I was it took a couple hours to get off and running as they called it,the contractions were more intense and harder than natural labor, but its all worth it in the end, best of luck oh maybe it would help you out more if i would not have forgotten the main thing. From the time they hooked me up to pit it took 13 hours and 40 mins and i was holding my son. Good luck

I was induced with my 2nd son and to be honest the contractions didnt take long to come on and they were Not any stronger than my first labor or my third. They felt the same to me as the others. I always hear women saying that they are alot stronger, but I guess its just different for all. I was only in labor for 2 hours. For the first hour there was no pain at all after the pitocin was given, and then the 2nd hour the pain started and didnt last long at all. He was born quick.

When I was induced I was on pitocin for about 10 hours. Then the baby started reacting badly to it (heartrate got down into the 70s) so my doc stopped the pitocin to see if things would progress on their own. My contractions basically stopped, and he'd already broken my water so I ended up having a c-section.

I went into natural labor, and then given morphine which then stopped my labor (when I was 13 days over-due!).
The next morning I was given pitocin at 7:30 am. The contractions were quite a bit worse than the natural ones. But no matter what, both kinds hurt, especially after your water breaks.
My son was born at 1:41 pm.
The pitocin was pretty immediate, within a half hour or so I was in pretty good pain. It probably depends on the strength that they give it to you at. They gave it to me real strong and not progressively because my son was in trouble.
Either way, I hope to avoid the pitocin next time, I didn't enjoy it.

I went to the hospital a week overdue (that's all the longer they would let me wait) to be induced at 6 am. First the used prostoglandin gel, (I was already having contractions but couldn't feel them) they tried that twice and then they started me on pictocin at about 6:00 in the evening in less than an hour I was having noticeable contractions then they broke my water at around 10 and I was still on the pictocin and the contractions were extremely painful so I got a epidural by 12 am and by morning I did not make anymore progression and I ended up having a c - section at 9:10 am

Contractions should start within the hour of getting the meds, and are faster and stronger than if they occured naturally. It is more painful than normally occuring contractions, but you progress faster so its over sooner!

I think you'll need your doctor to answer that.
Why are you considering pit? Why can't you wait for the natural contractions to start on their own?
