I am at the moment working on my baby's niece picture and it's nearly finished my sister in law is asking if i were to charge for it how much would it be? I am of course giving it as a gift but how does one charge for a cross stitch portrait it's about 8x10 big?

Figure up your materials and then charge 3 times that for the price. Some people also add in their time and pick an amount for an hourly wage.

If it's something nobody else could have done, like if you designed it yourself and did not use a pattern, or if you dyed your own floss, then you would add on a lot more, into the hundreds.

You have to take into consideration a few things

How much did you put into it? Materials? Time?

Is it one-of-a-kind?

How big is it? (If you decide to go into a business and make more)

Is it going to be framed? Is the frame unique or custom made?

I am just dabbling in cross stitch, so I have a small idea of what goes into it and what results from a finished project. But the ultimate cost of something you created is up to you. I just listed a few questions you might want to consider.

Ten times what your cross stitch material or kit cost. The cost of framing is up to the individual who buys it. That way they can frame it the way they want.
That's what I charge. If they want any exta embellishments like beads etc., it's $50.00 extra.
Hope this helps.
