Try starting with just a few syllables, rather than just doing gibberish.

Ha! Yes I can scat actually- as much as I don't want to admit it. I got some soul in me when need be.
Even for some of my friends voicemails I scat for them. They find it hilarious and to be quite a party-favor. I find it corny but funny just the same.
You just gotta get the music in you and 'Do Bop De' with the best of them.

It is so easy. All you gotta do is feel the music. It comes out naturally. You scat the melody over the rhythm. That's it, no need to try.

To start with, just sing the melody. The syllables you pick are less important than the tones you choose. Sing scales, and then start playing with variations. It's not as big a deal as people think.
