Frilly gray lichen stuff is covering and killing some of the small trees (crate myrtles) in my yard, how do I get rid of it?

Lichen doesn't kill trees. What happens is that if a tree is already dying, the lichen will appear, but they are perfectly harmless. There is a good article on crape myrtle problems at http://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheets/HGIC2002.htm

Lichen does not harm trees, it lives in symbiosis with the tree and are equally beneficial, lichen likes to live on stone bun it isn't eating it! merely using it to gather moisture and light..

Maybe you should describe the trees condition in another question and see if someone could provide you with an answer..

Kackys right, lichens won't kill your trees. If your crepe myrtles are dying it's from something else, not the lichen.
