Moisture is an absolute enemy of wood. So do not let any type of fluid stand on your wood floors. First, you need to sweep/swiffer or hoover the floor (The softer the bristles, the better). Then the best product that I have found is Orange Glo Hardwood Floor Cleaner. This product comes in a spritzer bottle, similar type bottle that windex comes in. You use a very minimal amount, and either use a sponge mop, or the absorbent pads made for the swiffer type mops. Unless I am waxing my floor, I would never put any liquid products on my floor with a mop.

Use a shop-vac or similar with a bristle end to pick up the bulk of dust and pet hair. Then a scrub down with Murphy's Oil Soap.

I use the bissell flip it mop. It comes with a special sponge to use on hardwood floors, and a harder sponge for tiles. Then you can vacuum, mop, and suck up the majority of the water in one step. So it dries in 5 minutes b/c there's barely any water left on the floor. It is very helpful for me with 4 kids and it comes wood floor cleaner and hard floor cleaner.
It works very good on my hardwood. I still have to grout out the tiles with bleach and a toothbrush but it's great for regular mopping.
