Well... my husband went around all day thinking it was fake... haha. I was counting contractions, but still wasnt sure myself. So, I called my godmother... She told me "If you can count anything, then its definetly something" (Plus, shes a nurse). Sure enough, about 24 hrs later, I finally went to the hospital and was already dilated at 3 cm.

My labour started in the morning and it wasn't that I was in terrible pain, but I had a hard time moving around and talking because I was forced to breath during a contraction. But it was another 3 hours before I had another contraction. By mid afternoon my contractions were about 20 mins apart and I walked around a car show for a few hours, after the show my husband and I went to the hospital just to get checked, they sent me home and told me to come back when they were 10 mins apart. We didn't go back to the hospital until the next morning and it was late afternoon before the pain really hit. Then the work really began.
I have to be honest and tell you that no one can really explain what if feels like. It's a different kind of pain that you don't understand until you're in it. Yes it hurts, but "hurt" is different for everybody. This was my first child and I asked the same question, and I thought I understood what it would be like. But I was seriously mistaken and knew that the moment things started happening.
The only thing I can honestly say is trust your body. Believe in yourself and what your body can do. Don't go in thinking that this will be the most pain you've ever been in, don't even think about the pain. Think of the miracle you are accomplishing and the years of joy you've got coming to you. Because in the end THAT is what is important.
Good Luck

i am kind of in your position right now i feel very crampy and in my back but my doctor said when you have contractions 10 min. apart then go to the hospital. If you think you are in labor go walk or have sex that should help.

When I was having my daughter I was so excited because the doctor said that I was dilating and I should go to the ER. So I get there and they tell me that I am not in labor to go home. I was pissed because I was getting alot of braxton hicks and I was not sure if I was in labor.
I ended up having alot of contractions the following night but I said that I was not going to the hospital unless my water broke. I did not want to be sent home again.. So in the morning the pain was really intensed and I knew this had to be it and it happened. I get to the hospital and I am told to piss in a cup, instead my water breaks. I was in alot of pain but I got that epidural and it was a relieve. So I had my beautiful baby girl...

I had an induced labor, but still the second day that I was at the hospital I was feeling cramps. On that second day that's when I gave birth to my son. You will know when you are ready. Even though my situation was different my doctor suggested me that when a woman is around their due date that they should walk alot that this helps deliver faster.

Each time was different for me. With my 1st, I had a sudden gush of water. I was in labor, but apparently, I have a pretty good tolerence for pain. I felt nothing until I was dilated 7cm. With my 2nd, my water was trickling out over a period of about 24 hours, before I figured out that it wasn't just incontinence. LOL!!! Again though, I felt nothing till I was at 7cm. My third was birth was induced and it was horrible. Pitocin is nasty stuff!!!!!

Unbelievable cramping and with every contraction, it feels like someone is stabbing you with a knife in the lumbar section of your spine (your lower spine)... Hope everything goes well for you before, during and after your baby is born!!
