Have you ever heard of anything so silly. I've been on ebay for about 3 years with 47 feedback all positive. I bought 2 ebooks for 1p. 1 how to be a powerseller, and the other secret of the 1p auction. I got suspended, and there reason "For safety of the ebay community"
I asked how to get back on ebay, they said I had to provide passports etc with my photo and address visable, along with utility bill, no big problem so far, but this is the best bit. I have to supply receipts from the shops where I bought my items I sold, meaning I have to supply 5 year old HMV receipts for the CD's and DVD's I sold. Which like anyone I dont have. And if I dont have, I have to supply photos with my ebay name written on a bit of papper in the front of the items I sold. Now how the hell am I ment to do that on items I sold a couple of years ago??
I've never heard of anything so stupid. Anyone else get silly requests like this?

Sounds like someone reported you for selling copies/pirates or stolen goods - I am guessing.
It seems double standards to me, I want to buy photoshop cs2+, checked ebay and it goes for around £350 to £600, yet some guy is selling about 6 copies for £19.95 buy-it-now price.
He states they are new, and has someone with a negative feedback saying "He sold as new - but it was a bent copy".
The seller replied with "Very intelligent buyer - paid peanuts and expected the real thing".
How can ebay allow this, and yet suspend someone like yourself?

dinkydav…
actually, this doesn't sound fishy at all! ebay is cracking down on pirated DVDs etc...
it looks bad to ebay that you are buying ebooks!
someone has reported your items apparently. ebay is now checking up on you.
ebay IS protecting the buyers. i am glad to see them take a stand FINALLY!
if you want to continue to sell, send them the info they have requested. there is no other way.
now, as to the validity of that email, you can send it to spoof@ebay.com and they will let you know if it is a SCAm or not.
but i would bet it is real.
BTW, quit buying ebooks. they make you look shady!
any wise buyer will not buy from an ebook buyer.

That does not sound like anything eBay would do or ask for. I hope you have not sent any personal info like your passport or any of the other stuff you say they asked for. Write to spoof@ebay.com and ask them.
And, if you do log into eBay, type it directly into your browser window, do NOT click your way there from an email.
Like someone else said, those Nigerians can be rather tricky. Watch out for spoof/phishing emails.

I agree with the others..this sounds very fishy. I think you might be getting scammed or something. Forward these emails to ebay and ask about them before you supply ANYONE with that kind of information. Good Luck!

STOP!!! And don't do anything else. This sounds like a scam...like you may have a trojan or your account may have been fished. Forward your emails to ebay and paypal. Ebay will never ask you for that kind of information!!!!

That does sound a little suspicious to me. I would try and log into your ebay account to make sure it was them that emailed you first.
