I have never sterilized a bottle. Babies have a mothers immunity when they are born and I use that immunity to my advantage by exposing them to normal every day activity so their bodies get used to the germs and know what to do with them.

You should sterilize any new bottle when you buy it. You only need to sterilize it the first time you use it, after that, warm water and detergent will work fine. When you sterileze bottles does not depend on the child's age. Any thing you purchase that will be in your child's mouth should be sterilized once before it is used.

They only recommend sterilization for the very first time you use a bottle..after that hot soapy water works just fine.

I've never sterilized bottles, not for seven babies. We are way too germaphobic in our society.

If you have a dishwasher, they don't need to be sterilized at all, as long as you wash them in hot water. Otherwise, once they have at least one round of shots.

Common wisdom seems to be somwhere between 6 and 12 months, depending on weaning, the general health of the child, siblings etc.
Good luck!
