it's called btl bi tubal ligation. it is low pain. It does not affect hormones b/c all it does is prevent the egg from dropping. The surgery takes like 45 min and then you go home. It is not easy to reverse, so make sure it is what you want. There is still a .01%chance that you could get pregnant, but my mom had hers done almost 21yrs ago and she has not gotten pregnant. I just had mine done in December, and the worst part for me was the shoulder pain. Because they have to pump you full of air, some of the air can get trapped causing shoulder pain. Mild pain pills work to control it and it only lasts for a few days. You also cannot have sex for a month or you risk infection. they go in through your belly button so there is no scarring! I am 24 and it was not a big deal. he doctor asked me a few times to make sure it was what I wanted, but they know it is ultimatly your decision. If your doctor is catholic, sometimes they won't do it though, but if he resfuses, you can always find someone else.

You know before you have your tubes tied your doctors will grill you and evaluate you to see if this is really what you want and if this is what your partner wants....if there is one.

For the most part though, if they do agree, they do a vaginal tube tying and they go straight up thru your yahoo.... ;) There is no meds to take beforehand. No visible scarring but the procedure might leave you down and out for a day. Your legs will feel like you ran a marathon for at least 4-5 days.

An alternative to the tying, and I'm sure your doctors will try and convince you of this because of your very young age, is a temporary birth control implant. No daily pills that you could possibly forget, no condoms - unless you have multiple partners and want to prevent std's, and no husband you have to try to enlist in a snip-snip.

Good luck on your decision. Think long and hard. It really is a very big move.

Getting ur tubes tied is called tubal ligation. You won't need to be on medicine afterwards (just pain meds from the surgery). It's a simple procedure that's puts you on medical leave for 4-6 wks to recuperate. No, it's not a big scar either. My sis had it done a couple of yrs ago. Her son was 12 yrs old when she decided she'd had all the kids she wanted.

I can't remember the correct name, but NO you don't need to take hormones you still have your ovaries. Basically they go in and put clamps on your ovarian tubes so nothing can get by. There is some scarring but it's not as bad as it used to be, in fact some women don't even get scars anymore (years ago it was a scar across almost your whole abdomen) However in all honesty, even if your just thinking about it you should talk to your doctor. He/She will be able to tell you more about the procedure.

It doesn't make you grow hair but it is pretty much permanent and it is surgery. I don't even know if a doctor will do it to a woman in her 20's. You should wait because you may at some point change your mind later on and that would not be good. Have your partner get a vasectomy or use birth control that is a better option for a woman as young as you, trust me.

I am 25, have 2 kids and got a tubal ligation when I was 21. No scarring. It's considered a bandaid procedure. they poke a hole in your belly button and one down by your pubic line, and they cover them with bandaids (no stitches) You don't need to take any medications except for maybe pain pills because you will be achy for about 2 weeks or so. (I was prolly sore for about a month)
