Gangs have always existed and will always exist. The difference is that today's gangs are made up of a bunch a cowards whom think that they are bad because they have big guns and they sneak up on the others in black window tinted cars and randomly open fire on the others, killing innocent people in their way. When I was (I'm sure many of the older folks can relate to this) in a neighborhood gang we fought with our hands, sticks rocks , and the occasional knife.
We never harmed any innocent people or even killed an opponent. Most of us grew old and have nice memories from those days. As we grew into adults we all (almost) became friends. I must add that back then no drugs were involved.
We can't get rid of the gangs but we can always try to funnel their energy into something more positive. ( UTOPIA, ? maybe)

Dont go into areas that you arent welcome. If you do, expect to get harassed for it. If there are gangs where you are and they are bothering you, shoot back, back down, or get jumped in. The best thing to do is find a gang that is based on race so it is a sure thing you can get in. Then start some sh*t with the gang that is bothering you and get your gang to back you up. The only way we can stop street gangs, is by making more of them.

Take away the reasons the gangs formed, lick a lack of other activities, a lack of opportunity, a lack of fun community.

But gangs have been part of human existence since the beginning. People are tribal, and just moving to a city doesn't change the need for a tight-knit community.

Yeah. Those kids are banding together for security because they feel alone, and we all know instinctively that there is safety in numbers. If society made a point to engage these kids early on- make them feel like there's a place for them besides the street or the jail- they wouldn't need a gang.

Make it mandatory for everyone over the age of 18 to carry a loaded gun. They would be a lot more careful about shooting if they knew everyone was going to shoot back. Instead of wanted posters, put their pictures on "Open season" posters. An armed America is a safe America.

You'd have to change their hearts, and rearrange their way of thinking. That's a tall order. You'd have to give them some purpose in life. They're looking for a place to fit in. They're looking for acceptance, power, and a thrill. Problem is, they're looking in the wrong places. Educating them and giving them the tools to be successful would be a start.
