It does when your problem is with a corporation that is worried about PR. The media is great at shaming them into fixing something.
I have seen them get the power back on for several people by making a big deal about how the power company was hurting terminally ill people that are unable to work.

If it's important- don't trust the media for heaven's sake .You will be misquoted and taken out of context - if they use any part of what you say in the first place . They may just rewrite it all and re-tell it so that it doesn't even resemble your problem . Nothing good ever came from the media . Do a little leg work . Research the top dog and get to the heart of the matter yourself .

Media attention is a double edged sword. Yes, the probability of your problems getting solved would magnify, at the same point of time, things may really get out of your control because of the "limelight" and people trying to get their 15-minutes of fame based on your story.
It depends on the circumstance and environment and more basically, what the problem is?
