A Spartan hoplite (footsoldier) wielded a pike of seven and a half to nine feet in length, donned a helmet, breastplate, and greaves and carried a short sword at his waist. The sword used by the hoplites (=soldiers), who formed the undefeated main phalanx of the Spartan army, the short sword, was ideal for close combat and extemely lethal in the hands of the trained Spartans. He held so large a shield that it could be used as a stretcher to carry wounded from the field. This shield protected its bearer's left side and front, and extended far leftward to protect his neighbor's right side.
The sword was used by the officers (lochagoi) of the famous Spartan infantry for close combat at battles like Thermopylae and Plataies.

never heard that one, interesting, very very interesting, we need some historical biological studies to start with to see if we can find aids pre WWII. Some say it was discovered in the 70's but i suspected it's been around longer just unknown for reasons like it's an immune deficiency so it could go unnoticed prior to microbiology as people did not die of aids they dies of pnumonia and it was just considered they were weak. So i want to know how far back can we find evidence. 2. Then i want to know the evolutionary developement of the aids virus what was its evolutionary predecessor, trace it's geaneology to make sure it is a smooth steady progression. 3. finally for brevity sake, i want to know the state of medical and bio weapons research at the time, any similar themes or breakthroughs in viruses occur at that time? start to piece this together and go from there, somebody get on it, i expect a full report by tuesday!

Hoplon war a large shield a pike or spear if you will a short sword more like a dagger. and Unity they fought a a unit always shoulder to shoulder as solid wall and them they pushed as team against the opponents, crushing and forcing enemies back and onto the points of their spears. Sword fighting was a last resort only when the formation was broken and they were in disarray. usually losing.

I believe it's "Spartans", and they used spears, kite shields, bows, and swords (Falcata, Lakonian, Roman Gladius).
