Do you think they are being given a free ride because of the things they've done in the past?

I'm not going to argue about what Duke has or has not done on the court this year. They're going to get in. They're Duke. Period.

What I will say is that they do get somewhat of a free ride based on their past actions. This is a big comment coming from a Duke hater, but Duke has EARNED this lofty reputation they currently posess. One cannot deny the quality of the program Coach K has run over there. One cannot deny the championships, the solid teams, the great players, etc. etc.

Sure they are an unfair beneficiary of the hype machine (you hear me, Dickie V.???). But to an extent they did earn that hype by building a program with a reputation for greatness. Are they that great this year? Heck no. Of course not. But that reputation will get them by.

Although, to keep the debate going, why then isn't Kentucky the beneficiary of this kind of hoopla?

i'm a unc fan and simply because some of these answers are completely boneheaded i'm going to...gulp...defend duke

they played the second best schedule in the country, they have a top 10 RPI, and they play in the best and most competitive conference in the country...people who say they should not be in are simply comparing them to previous duke teams and saying they should not be in because they are not a "vintage" duke team...while they are obviously not one of duke's best teams, this does not mean they don't deserve entry to the tournament, because teams are compared to the rest of the teams in the country today, not to a school's past teams...and their 22-10 mark against that schedule with a team that young is actually fairly impressive if you think about it...they will be in and receive a 7 or 8 seed, and be bounced within the first two rounds

I do think so but they also have some key wins and one of the hardest schedules. I am a UNC fan to the heart but Duke is gonna make it regardless of a loss in the ACC tournament. Duke sucks. Duke sucks. Duke sucks.

yes and its quite ridiculous...there are about 5 or 6 other teams in the conference we deserve an invite ahead of duke and no conference should get 7 invitations. the loss to nc state is embarassing and should be a deal breaker. the committee needs to send them to the NIT

totally. After yesterday's embarrassing loss I see them being unranked again. Coach K is a master of reputation. Duke mooches off what he did in the past and takes the cake from him. How do the lose once, go unranked, win against some easy ACC team, and become #14? idk but it is a reputaion.

speaking as a duke fan. yea i think so. i think duke gets more "love" because its duke and coach K. and its not a tournament without either of them. thats why no matter what, dukes getting in just by namesake.

They're rated higher, but they've got players this year for sure...I see them going second round.
