They are similar--or at least used in similar ways.

Both refer to people who are socially awkward, unpopular, or ridiculously uncool.

The main difference is that a geeks generally have a very focussed interest or talent which they share with other geeks (computers, books, collecting etc). Often those interests require a fairly high level of intelligence, knowledge and/or skill (though not always). Also, a person can be "normal" in every other way, while being a "geek" about a single thing.

Geek comes from the old sideshow term for a performer who impersonated the "wild man" and ate cigars and bit the heads off chickens. Dork comes from the scientific term for a whale's penis.

A geek can be defined as a nerdy figure, but Webster defines a geek as a person who bites the heads off chinkens at fairs or carnivals.

A dork sometimes can mean a nerd, but it is more likely described as a stupid, inept, or foolish person.

Hope that helps :) <3

Technically:

American Heritage Dictionary - Cite This Source geek (gēk) Pronunciation Key
n.

1. A person regarded as foolish, inept, or clumsy.
2. A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept.
3. A carnival performer whose show consists of bizarre acts, such as biting the head off a live chicken.

American Heritage Dictionary - Cite This Source dork (dôrk) Pronunciation Key
n.
1. Slang: A stupid, inept, or foolish person: "the stupid antics of America's favorite teen-age cartoon dorks" (Joshua Mooney).
2. Vulgar Slang: The penis.

[Perhaps from dork, variant of dirk.]

So in slang forms these days, they are often interchangable; however, in reality their meanings can vary from a circus freak to a penis! The penis reference in dork is not one I use often but makes sense since it may be a variant of dirk, which is a dagger-like weapon that one uses to stab, and such things are often used to represent the penis and its function.

geeks play video games. Dorks don't do anything. Theyre just dorks.
I'm a dork, but I do stuff.

Geek is someone who may redeem himself someday with some accomplishments in the wider world. Dork is hopeless. It is a subtle distinction.

The difference is in the spelling. All other differences are semantics.
