An instance is a dungeon.

Why they are referred to as an instance is for the fact that they are completely seperate from the normal "world"

Meaning, when your group enters an instance, only those people in the party/raid are going to be inside (and all the monsters too obviously)

An Instance is another word for dungeon. They are areas where you can get good gear (better than world drops).

The instance is like your own private dungeon for you and your party. No one else can enter so you have the ability to kill everything inside the instance.

Other parties can enter that dungeon, but not the exact one you are in (you will not see any other player characters except for you and your party), by that I mean, the instance resets for them so they can kill everything as well.

The same goes for raids (10-40people).

Kinda hard to describe. lol
