My DIL is 100% Irish and loves every part of it. Sadly last year while we were out for a late St Pat's day dinner, their home burned to the ground taking a dog and two cats. They have not been able to have children so the four legged kind were their babies. It was just devastating and I know the anniversary of the fire is going to be tough. I'm trying to think of ways to make the day more special so they can enjoy it again. We are going to see Riverdance on the Wednesday night before but I'm at a loss as to other things that might help. I will invite them to a family dinner with all the traditional stuff like Corn Beef and Cabbage and Irish Soda Bread but other than that what can I do? This has always been a fun day as we have the Irish on our side too, my grandpa being a Ryan. Any help will be appreciated.

I think that they would like to know that their pets are not forgotten, rather than just avoiding all talk of them. Maybe you could make a charitable donation to a pet shelter. The dinner idea is really nice and I'm sure it will help them tremendously to be with caring family on that day.
