True! We put them around (and under) our shed...no snakes & we are in Florida! (We have woods all around us & have snakes in the yard occasionally) My in-laws have used them for years for snakes.

Scatter a few mothballs around your garden and "hey presto" no cats will take a dump in your roses.

Garlic bulbs work also. Garlic will also keep bats from coming into your house thru your attic if you simply throw a couple of the bulbs around in the rafters.
