There are three statuses between a landowner and a visitor.

A "trespasser" has no legal right to be on the premises. A "licensee" has permission to be on the premises, usually for some non-business reason. An "invitee" is invited onto the premises for business reasons, or for some other material benefit to the landowner.

So, a licensee is anyone who has permission (a license) to be on the property, but is there for personal or social reasons.
