They don't understand us. Its ignorance, people hate what they don't know or understand... why? THAT is something I can't answer for you. Along with that is the religious stand point that we're sinners. Everyone hates what is bad and religion makes us the bad guys.

Now, are you talking about the true homophobia where a person is actually afraid of them, or are you talking the loosely used term "homophobe" that everyone uses these days for people that use terms like fag and such? Because homophobia really is as real as arachnophobia is--to have an incredible fear of homosexuals vs. spiders. But when people use the term homophobic these days, they don't even know what it means. Like if a person makes fun of a gay person, they are labeled as a homophobe, which is equated the same as if someone were to make fun of a spider and labeled an arachnophobe. It just doesn't make sense. I hate how homophobic is used so much these days in such an uncorrelated way. USE IT CORRECTLY!

The term homophobic is used to imply fear to homosexuals, (although the true meaning is not so). In one hand you have people who at one point of their lives were sexually molested by same sex individuals. But that doesn't mean all homosexuals are alike, because obviously they are not.
You have also people who have been induced to some values which they later adopted as their own personal values in which homosexuality is viewed as a perversion, even when it is not so.
Religious "morality" rules may also cause people to become homophobic, because as you know, some religions despice homosexuality and homosexuals, because to them such lifestyle is a "sin".
Yet, there are other people who fear homosexuals because they "go with the flow". They have no reason to fear homosexuals, nor they have been taught to fear them, but they live in communities where the majority of the people hold similar personal values in which homosexuality is not accepted, and thus, those who go with the flow do so because they are afraid to be identified as detractors or posibly be thought to be homosexuals when they are not so.
I have gay and lesbian friends, and they are great individuals who never have disrespect me. They know that I am straight and that I respect their personal choices, because I have no right to tell them how to live their lives.
Respecting other people's Rights leads to peaceful living.

For lack of a better word phobic directly means "fear of" IE: fear of homosexuals". One would argue that they are not afraid of homosexuals. Humans react out of love or fear. People are homophobic out of hate. Hate does not come from "love".
Hate is taught, not evident at birth. A child isn't born hating homosexuals. Some are homophobic because they have their own homosexual "feelings" that terrify them. They deal with them by acting out against homosexuals or to fit in with their pathetic peers.
Hate destroys... pure and simple
Do not hesitate to report ANYTHING to the authorities... anything... and if you are not satisfied write your mayor, congress, governor, school principal, university chancellor... EVERYONE MUST KNOW.
EDUCATE!

I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with being gay. Some people have a very religious background and have been taught since brith that a union can only be between a man a woman and it is hard for them to see people going against that. I think it is also ignorance on most peoples part.

Because of strong cultural attachments to gender roles and the belief that there are only two sexes and that only two genders are connected to those sexes and only in a certain way. Homophobia is largely gender enforcement. I am often heartsore when I watch Homosexuals bash trans identified people because homophobia and transphobia are intimately linked to gendered expectations. =(
You're not acting like a real man should act, you must a f *****!
Stop being so butchy(masculine)! what are you, a dyke?
Creepy trans person, stop pretending and be a real man/woman already!!
.... Gender Enforcement...

I don't think very many people are. A phobia is a fear of, and I don't know anyone who fears gays. I think that word makes no sense.
