I can't recall a time when Americans were ever together in the first place. Crack open a history book and take a look at politics around the year 1828. At the time, John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson were both running for the Presidency. "Mud-Slinging" (the term commonly used when politicians speak badly of each other) reached a new low when Adams' supporters referred to Jackson's mother as a common prostitute. It didn't stop there either. The mudslinging continued throughout the entire campaign, on both sides, in what was historically the ugliest political contest in American History.
Also, what about the civil war, the civil rights movements of the 60's, the plight for women's suffrage in the early 20th century, the Vietnam War, WWII....and so on? The fact is, people are no more divided now than they have ever been. People have always been and will always be people. We will always have opinions, disagreements, different beliefs and values, and that will never change.
The answer then, of course, is America will never completely come together, because it was never completely together in the first place. In fact, no nation ever will. When you have more than one person present, there is automatically the potential for conflict. It's sad but true. The best we can do is try to love each other despite our differences and make sure to improve ourselves as individuals.

Democrats are basically stupid. They have continually obstructed, lied, and attacked everything in this country that is good. They have caused the people to be divided in a way that has never been. And they don't care, they are not smart enough to see that what goes around comes around.
President Bush has reached out to the Democrats numerous times and been slapped down for it. They take office with the attitude that the Republicans will never come to power again. Not a good plan. Some day soon, we shall see Democrats wondering why the Republicans won't let them participate in the Congress. Of course, the Republicans will never be as nasty as the Democrats, so in that respect they won't get full return for what they have sown.

The Democrats and Republicans... The self appointed Yin and Yang of our political system, who would love for us to believe that they are the only options, so that they may consolidate and dole out power as they see fit, pitting various social sectors against each other in a sick ballet of degradation and self destruction. Of course, they have to keep that part in check, so they spin events to keep enough hope in them, that we believe they are our political panacea.
We are allowed more that two parties, people. But, if we keep electing these same two jokers, all it becomes is repeated exercises in futility. JFK and MLK, Jr were 40 years ago, and yet, we fell for the two parties and their social warfare, that we are still, in some ways struggling with all of this BS. Elect a third party to share in the load, and these two will actually have to do something. Maybe that's why they keep the other parties blocked out, huh? After all, they have something really cushy and sweet going on. Just work for a year, campaigning, then sit back and collect the revenue, occaisionally making big waves about a law, so the people believe something is being done. Not a bad racket, I say.

I think that the parties are bull, we should be electing people based on who they are now what party they are from. Also, I think that when we do a major overhaul of the nations government, put service limits on all public postings, and destroy the parties, then maybe this country has a chance to save itself. Also, the electoral college has to go, its ancient and useless now, and it doesnt represent the people anymore. The government has lost touch with the people and now the people need to take matters into thier own hands, we have the power, unfortunatly most people refrain from using it, what would it hurt for everyone to take one day off of work and go to the senate and use your constitutional right to say what you want to about what they are voting on. But no, people are so wrapped up in thier own lives they dont even pay attention to what the politicians are voting on, even if it hurts them, they dont see it.
For American people to come together we need to see the power we have and use it, no more hate because your a democrat and im a republican, i mean what does it mean anymore. All it does is drive us apart, "united we stand, divided we fall!" Has everyone forgotten the civil war, did we learn nothing?

The only issue I see both side coming together on is the illegal alien issue. Too bad what the people want is not what the politicians are doing. In regards to the left VS right, I fear that will get further separated due to the initiative of the left wing socialist who are now entrenched in the democrat party. Personally I think the democrats need to distance themselves from the hateful left wing kooks that have taken over and they need to show the country that they have a viable plan for anything. The Clinton's need to fade away into the sunset. This divide began with them and their fellow crooks.

I feel the Democrats are only partially responsible for the attitudes of the majority of the people. Their viscious sound bites and ideology will probably lead them to defeat again in the presidential race. However, the general public is as much to blame for allowing the Democratic leadership to gain the slight advantage they have in the political realm today. Also, until the Republicans can bring forth a qualified candidate and not a few retreads from years gone by, we will continue to see the political system in its disarray.

We need liberals and conservatives. I would never want to live in a country controlled by only one side. The system is working. Bush will get his, and when the liberals screw up, they will get theirs. Don't be so one-sided. I vote democrat, but not for the ones I think are idiots.

Why would they do that? Liberals have been singing the praises of 'diversity' for decades. They actually believe there is strength in what they are doing to us. Frankly, I don't care much about what's left of this country. My America is long dead. All that's left is a stinking corpse. Maybe it's time for a new Constitutional Convention. Time to bury the body and start over. Just as soon as the Liberals 'get theirs'.

I really don't care what you say: the problem is:
1) The republicans caused the mess.
2) The repulican's solution is to continue the mess.
3) The democrats won't do a dam thing about the mess.
In conclusion, why the hell do we vote for these parties?
