Let me tell you what happen. I did numerous job interviews with this company. Apperantly they liked me because they keep calling me after i had the first interview and i liked them. So finally they called me and told me that they were looking to hire me and they gave me a date that they were thinking would be appropriate start date but they said they needed some information and their home office had to approve the information before i start. One of the information they requested was to send them a pay stub from my current employer but at the application i have a different pay rate then what is on my paystub. The amount included on my application i make only on sundays. the rest of the days i make less then what it shows. I send them the pay stub with an explanation that there is a bonus involved at the end of the year to make up for the other days but have not heard from them since. Well it only been 3 days so i dont know what to do. Should i call them, wait or move on its over

your paystub is confidential information that YOU own, and should NEVER be asked to disclose unless its to a bank for a loan. no question that something is fishy. i would contact the fraud department at your local police station and ask their opinion. i know you dont want to hear or accept that something is wrong, but it is. dont be a gump.

I do not know why they requested a pay stub from your current employer. I would not have provided them with my pay stub. They may have wanted your Social Security # to do a background check which some companies do but that is usually on the application. As a general rule, they can only call up your current employer to verify employment. They can't ask for salary information. At least, that's how it is in the Northeast.

Anyway, sometimes it takes a few days for background checks to be completed.

Regardless, I would give them a call (whoever your main contact point person was) since it's been 3 days. You can ask if they received the necessary information you sent, did they have any other questions or need anything further. And then you can close your comment with how excited you are about starting and want to lock in a start date, etc., etc.

Hope you get the position! Good luck!

I have never heard of an employer requesting a pay stub. Or you positive the company is legit? My pay stub has my social security number on it, did yours? I really hope that you did not get caught up in scam. It is odd that they would need information "approved", such as the information on a pay stub, before they could extend an offer. I would call sometime today to ensure that the paystub was received, and ask what the next step is. This will help you verify how kosher the company is. Keep us posted!

The conflicting information regarding your income between your application and your pay stub is a problem. Its quite possible that they feel that you were less than honest with them on your application. Did the application have a section which stated that when you sign the application that you are certifying that everything on the application is correct?

I would suggest that you do nothing for now but you should begin looking for another position with another company and do not stretch the truth in your future applications.

If you do not hear from them in a week or so then you should call but my gut feeling tells me that its over with that company.

Good luck on your job search. Sounds like you will land something soon. Just learn from this experience and build on it. Do not despair, its not as bad as it seems. Go get that next job!!!!!

I agree.....it's odd that they asked you for a pay stub; there's no information on it that they would need that isn't on the application. Also, federal law does not allow prospective employers to ask questions to former employers beyond the dates you were employed there...not even the reason you were terminated. I'd be really offended if the company called to double-check my salary, rather than trusting that I'm honest enough to not lie on an application. Based on the info. you've posted, I wouldn't even want to work for that company.

Wait until Monday. They got the stub , but maybe they haven't had time to review it . This is is the hardest part for you because they know which way they'll go so they are in no hurry , but you are in the dark .
By Monday afternoon give them a call and ask them if there is any other piece of information that you can supply them to make the process as smooth as possible for them..

Good Luck !

It is od that they asked for it in the first place, I see it as a violation of privacy.

I'd give it a couple more days, but you can always call to make sure they got the pay stub, or call to ask if they need anything else from you.

(Did you send a thank you note for the interview? That's very important)

Good luck.

As a HR professional my take it you've lost your trust. You should have indicated word for word in your application. There is no harm in asking for higher pay but its harmful if you don't speak the truth. I suggest you wait for another week and see if they'll call. If they don't, move on and start searching.
