I live in New York and am of Irish descent. Is New York going to apologize to my ancestors for the "No Irish Need Apply" law? How about those of Italian or German descent who were discriminated against? The people who sold the blacks into slavery in the first place (people of their own color back in Africa raided villages and sold them to the slavers in the first place) should apologize also. No body should apologize for anything. It's in the past.

What good does it do apologizing for the past? The parties involved are long gone. I had ancestors that were forcibly removed from their lands through the Trail of Tears. I am a descendant of the Cherokees who were forcibly removed. In fact some Cherokees were slaves. But, you do not hear me asking for an apology. Quit this politically correct crap and move on. Dwelling on a past that can't be changed does not do any good. And don't get me started on reparations because anyone asking for that is looking for a handout.

Aw, cut the crap... what the hell is there to apologize for...? YOU didn't have crap to do with what your ancestors did BEFORE you were even born... what fault did YOU have in what they did?
That is so stupid. OK, the apology is made. Now, let's go on with the rest of our lives and not have to deal with this stupid issue of "apologizing"... what a stupid notion, really, people apologizing for others... sheesh!
Oh, let's apologize to the Native Americans, to the Japanese, to the Chinese, to the Inuits, the Hawaiians, Puerto Ricans, and to the gays that have had to live for centuries in the "closet."
And, let's apologize to the unborn that have been aborted, to the aliens we have allowed the rich and powerful to hire at below minimum wages, cheat them out of wages and benefits and have them living in substandard housing, to those countries that the super rich and powerful have raped of land and rights and have contaminated their lands and waters... let's also apologize to the deer and the skunks and raccoons and squirrels, birds, insects....
And while we're at it, let's demand an apology from the African Nations that sold fellow Africans into slavery...! Let's see how far that's going to go!
Oh, did I offend you? I apologize. Did I bore you? I apologize! Satisfied? I apologize. This apology schtick is really getting a little ridiculous... ooops, I might offend someone... I apologize!
If you REALLY want to do something worthwhile, READ the Constitution and help support it against those who would chip away at our rights, liberties and freedoms... support those Candidates that will fight to preserve the Constitution and not abuse their powers to alter or destroy our Constitution. Our Constitution will ensure us that those abuses will never happen again but we must NEVER allow anyone one person or group to think themselves above the Constitution... or we all risk enslavement of one kind or another.

I don't live in a state that had African slaves. My ancestors did and I see no reason to apologise for what they did. I couldn't stop them, I wasn't around at the time. I think we are carrying this apology thing way too far.

If we all start asking for apologies for every wrong doing that we all have made, imaging, we never finish and it will be a waste of pleasure time that we could use in the present and future, the tools are there let's start using it,to better our self for the future. Apologies have to be giving around the time that the offense was committed, not 100 years later.Don't you think so?

It is very nice of you to do this, but what does it accomplish? Does it change anything? And is the fact your ancestors were slave owners your fault? You're cool to be so nice, but really, the folks demanding apologies don't deserve one. You can't apologize to dead people, and the people who were affected by slavery are all dead. And unfortunately, if these folks get what they want here, they'll find something else to complain and grandstand about.

I don't know how many, but my Great Great Great Grandfather own some slaves. He never left any money or property that made it to me. In fact, I have never inherited anything from anyone. So, I don't care who was slaves or who owned them. But, if you can find a slave that was owned by any of my relatives, or any slave owned by any resident of my state, or any state, I would be happy to go to that former slave and apologize.
Now, the descendants of slaves in this country should write letters to each slave owner and personally thank them profusely for having slaves in this country. They can thank their lucky stars that someone brought their ancestors to THIS country instead of leaving them in deepest darkest Lion eatin' Africa. Descendants of slaves have incredibly more opportunities in this country than in any country in Africa. In fact, the odds are great that if that ancestor had NOT been brought over here, they would not exist. The mortality rates in Africa would more than likely killed one of their ancestors and they would not have been conceived.

The thing is,how can anybody apologize for something that ceased to exist in 1865?
I won't apologize for something a long dead ancestor did.
That's akin to asking the British to apologize for the burning of Washington,D.C. during the war of 1812.
It's insensible.

Will the owners of the Irish slaves who were my forceably emmigrated forfathers appologize to me? Will anyone appologize to me for the wrongs done to my Cherokee and Creek ancestors? I didn't think so. Screw the NAACP. They aren't about equality, anymore. Now it's getting over on the system, and gaining concessions for things they aren't entitled to. They've grown fat and corrupt, just like the whites they oppose. Get over yourselves, people. We're Americans, and that's it. You're no more special than me, and I am no more special than you. End of story.
