I think the transmission fluid may be low. When I put it in drive (sometimes lately) it has been giving me a slight jerk before taking off. Any suggestions on what this may be!

I can't find a place to check the transmission fluid.

I have a 99 Pontiac Grand Am

THERE IS NOOOOO DIPSTICK!!!!!! yet anther wonderful GM designs. you have to get under the car and take out a plug in the tranny. if fluid comes out, its fine. if not, fill till fluid comes out. i'm a car guy, i enjoy working on my car, but this is one of those things where its worth just taking it in and letting them do it. its better and easier then making a huge mess on the garage floor.

good luck

should see a stick with a handle(like on lawnmower) toward the back of the engine, pull it out when the engine has been running and there you will be able to check the fluid. Not being smart, just best description I could give. Good luck. Not pro, but a slight jerk-could mean you need to get the tranny checked? an option.. hope you can find problem.

There should be a yellow colored dipstick really low toward the bottom of the engine but still accessable from the top.

That being said, it's most likely not low, just dirty. I would take it to a lube shop and get them to do a Transmission Flush (the one with the machine). It cleans it out really well. This should be done every 30k miles if possible.

You don't. I had a 99 Grand Am and thought about the same thing. Then I found in the owners manual or somewhere that there is no way to check it. It is supposed to be good tell 100k miles. A mechanic might have to check it.

There should be a dipstick. It looks like the oil dipstick and the handle should be yellow.
