Why is it that on a global scale, the majority of films released to the average joe in the street staggered?

I really want to see The Other Bolyen Girl after being a fan of the book since it came out, but if I lived in the US, I would be able to see it upto 2 and a half months before it reached the UK.

I concur that the "biggie" releases usually get worldwide releases within one or two days of each other, but its hardly fair to subject the rest of us outside the US to an unfair waiting time (IMO).

If it's an American made film then it's usually released in the US first, if it's a UK made film then it's premier is in the UK. All the James bond films are released in the UK first to give you an example.

I've got news for you, in the UK I can by DVDs of films before they are released, and they are of studio standard's, quality DVDs.
